Olympic Lifting Club

Olympic Lifting or Olympic Style Weightlifting contains two lifts. The "Snatch" and the "Clean & Jerk". Athletes train and compete to achieve their best/heaviest attempts in each of the lifts in kilograms. The two weights are then combined together for a "Total" score and then ranked among other lifters of the same weight class.

There are three different age categories: Youth (18 years and under), Junior (20 years and under ), and Senior (21 years and older). Adults over the age of 35 years are eligible for Masters events.
Female weight classes include: 44kg (youth only), 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, and 75kg+.
Male weight classes include: 50kg (youth only), 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg, 105kg+.

Our Action Weightlifting Club training is for both competitive and recreational weightlifters. The Club is coached by NCCP Weightlifting Certified, Chad & Katrina Brandt. Chad has over 10 years of weightlifting experience and has attended seminars taught by US National Team Members Greg Everett and Aimee Anaya. Katrina has over 5 years of weightlifting experience and has assisted with the instruction of weightlifting seminars taught by Mike Bergener.

Coached training is scheduled for 2 days/week, and programming is done for the development of the entire team. Additional programming of 2-3 days is prescribed for athletes to complete during their own schedule.

2012/2013 Team Training Schedule:
Tuesday & Thursday 5:30-7:00pm

Individuals with little or no prior experience with the standard lifts (deadlift, front squat, back squat, overhead squat, press, push press) may be required to attend private training sessions if teaching and technical work beyond what can be accomplished during team training is deemed necessary.

Membership to the Alberta Weightlifting Association is required for those individuals wishing to compete. As part of the AWA, lifters ranked 'Class 3' or higher are eligible for funding for out of Province and Team travel expenses.
